About
The new Tunbridge Wells hospital has provided the community with a state-of-the-art healthcare facility based upon a successful design concept from America.
Set in the beautiful countryside of Pembury in Kent each single bedroom overlooks the surrounding forestry to aid patient recovery. Space planning played a fundamental part in the design to optimise departmental and room layouts ensuring minimum patient travelling times around the hospital.
The £232 million project consisted of the design and build of this 66,300m2 gross internal floor area, fast track state of the art first ever 100% single bedroom (with ensuite) acute hospital in the UK.
It consists of various departments such as Mortuary, Emergency Care Centre (A&E), Maternity and Neo Natal, Ante–Natal and Post-Natal units, Pharmacy and Aseptic suite , Medical Records, Elective Theatres, Day Surgery Theatres, ITU and HDU Theatres, Minor Ops, Acute assessment units, Education Centre, Outpatients, Nuclear Imaging, Pathology and Blood Services Science Laboratories, Restaurants and Cafes.
The scheme included as a separate phase the isolation and demolition of the remaining and existing hospital buildings and formation and completion of the new car parks, hard, soft landscaping, and helipad, with all handover dates successfully completed ahead of programme with the overall project being completed 37 weeks earlier than the anticipated contract completion date.
